Anemone Blow out !!

Its one of my new nems. It was doing better & then today I turn the lights on & it looks like it has had a blow out in its foot. It looks like guts.

I touched it & it shriveld up & kinda turned into a ball.

Is this anemone cking out ? If so I need to get it out of the tank as I dont want it to kill the other one as it is still doing good. I THINK.

Is there any hope for this guy ?

What do I need to do ?

Help us Please !

it doesnt look damaged, those "guts" look like just more tentacles, what type of anemone is it? that might help discern if theres anything wrong or if its just normal for its species.

if its not deflated all the time and your water quality is good, the best thing you can do is leave it in there, possibly try feeding it a couple times a week with some mysis shrimp that have been dusted with a good filter feeder food for the extra vitamins and amino acids.

It looks like something got to it. The foot is generally pretty tough tissue compared to thr rest of the animal. I'm not too sure what you'd be able to do about it aside from hoping it heals on its own....

Yeah, those stringy bit are mesentarial filiments I think. It doesnt look good. If it wasn't damaged in any way (and remember, even a small tear/rip can lead to a bacterial infection), then something else must have caused this - predatory maybe?

Keeping your water clean, and further predators away is really the best you can do now, and just hope for the best.

The damage seem pretty extensive to me, and it doesnt look hopeful I'm afraid. I really do hope it can pull through for you.

Thank you for the replies. I got to read them early on today while I was on the run. Sorry I didn't have the time to post then.

I looked the tank over very well & even moved the rocks about. What I found was a few blue leg hermits & some bristle worms that I knew about. I also found a peppermint shrimp that I didn't know was there. I am guessing but I assume the shrimp is the bad guy here ? I know they can eat the sm bad guys but are all anemones on there menu ?

The anemone does have a rip/hole in its foot where that red stuff is coming from. It is still with us but it is closed up in a ball shape. I am now running a carbon filter.

Should I do another water change to keep up the WQ ?

I did take the other anemone out & put it into another tank. It looks like its doing good.

The Peppermint Shrimp has also been removed & is in a new tank.

Thanks
Bump

i have had peppermint shrimp in with my long tentacle anemone for months and they get along fine, but who knows.
the blue leg hermits wouldnt bother it.

you should definatley keep doing water changes untill the anemone is healed, are there any other corals or stinging critters within close proximity of the anemone? if so it may be a good idea to clear the area around him.

good luck!

Thank you for all your help with these two anemones.

Based on what you told us, what is shown in the pics, and the fact that it happened to two different animals in two different systems, I can't help but think that there was some minor damage to the feet that occured when the anemones were removed from the wholesaler's tanks or the retailer's tanks. I don't know if they used a fingernail or a razor blade or whatever to remove them but whatever it was, it likely made a small injury that got infected. This infection weakened the outer flesh until there was a "blowout" of the internal organs. I'd try to keep an eye on how they are removed at the retail shop in the future. I would also watch how you handle them. That's the only two situations you really have any control over.
The best setup I've seen was a system where the anemones were separated by type and there was high traffic carpeting attached to four of the five panes. This allowed the retailer to easily remove the anemones from the carpeted areas rather than to have to pry them off glass or rockwork.
