My Latest additions

Hi all,

Just wanted to share a few photos of the latest additions to the clownfish owning disorder :-)

A tiny pair of nigripes currently in my reef tank also shared with the picasso pair shown in the photos. The platinum pair are being held for me for a couple of weeks so looking forward to having them soon.

My Latz are pair still going well, still have an additional redundant large female. Its hard to find a small juvie Latz, will just have to be patient I guess. There seem to be quite a few latz keepers now, how is everyone getting on with them?

There seems to be a whole host of choice at the moment, could have picked up snowflakes, PNG percs, Super percs (whatever the hell they are) , mis bar b+w ocellaris pairs this week alone. Thankfully both budget and space prohibit any further purchases.

Very nice! Are they your tanks (blue) or is that at the store? It's a great looking nigripes. I hope it does well for you.

As for the clownfish owning disorder I'm starting to wonder if we should form a new 12 step group. I was looking at Reefaholics Anonymous to be all inclusive or perhaps go more focused with Peciformiphilliacs Anonymous.

The blue tanks are the dealers tanks, mine are generally black backs apart from my reef tank. I have taken a few photos today, the two pairs are settling in well, seemingly oblivious of each other thus far although both pairs are very small at the moment. The Nigripes have adopted a hairy mushroom colony as home, the percs happy enough it seems to go with the flow.

I like the idea of the 12 step programme, How about forming a charitable organisation for the rehoming and care of clownfish?

I must really have a problem. The mere thought of parting with my leucs or thielleis makes me cringe. Everything else could go away tomorrow and God knows my life would be easier if they did.

BTW. Love the pics. I know I don't need to tell you what I think about putting those guys in the same tank together WO quarrantining them but what I was really thinking about was that once those nigripes settle in I'm betting they will be the terrors of the tank despite being markedly smaller.

Yes, I take your point about the potential fireworks as they mature, new aquarium is maturing as we speak for the picasso pair. The quarantine wasn't a big concern, both pairs came through TMC and as such were all in their system prior to my dealer having them.

Three weeks in and all well so far.

Do most of your retailers buy through wholesalers, or import direct?

I think it makes a huge difference in both potential health issues and certainly sadly cost.

Yes Walt it maybe that you have an addiction to clowns, the psychology of addiction is interesting. At least it is only harmful to your dollar quota!

I think it's a bit of a wash. I don't get into the business practices of the stores I frequent but like most people I pay attention to the health of the animals they sell. There are places that have deplorable health but unparalleled selection and others that have mediocre selection with excellent health and many who fall somewhere in the middle.

I have bought directly through wholesalers and totally get your point about the quality of what comes in. I still quarrantine everything that comes in wet. Even the snails and critters I collect myself.
I don't want to make your thread about those matters. The point is that you have a couple nice looking pairs and I hope you have fun with them.
I'd like to see some closer shots of the nigripes if they'll allow you to shoot them.

I will certainly try to take some clearer shots of the Nigripes, a little bit tricky getting closeups so far!

Mine are bloody awful on getting a clear shot. They do not come out when there are humans within 20' of the tank. I have to watch them from across the room. I hope to have a reef for them soon so they will at least hide out in the open (in an anemone.)
