For me it varies depending on what is available on the grocery store or asian markets we have here in OKC. I usually purchase fresh fish/shrimp/squid/oysters/mussels etc, smash them up using a mortar and pestle, add a few drops of garlic and selcon+ and put the mixture into the ice cube trays (the little ones) then thaw and feed. I vary the mixture with krill, nori and other things depending on which clowns and what they seem to prefer. Always mix in some spirulina enriched Brine shrimp and sometimes some vita-chem. I can honestly say I vary their diets about as much as I do my own!

i've meddled with a lot of variations and settled on 1 which i trialed on a pair of clarkii (from juv to breeding pair) and a moorish idol for 14mths.
2 feedings a day.

Simply - Fresh Squid,Shrimp(grey prawns),Oysters. Equal ratio of each, freeze in cups then grated(cheese grater), scoop into ziplock bags, flatten and kept frozen. Grated to feed fish not the filter.
Mysis is fed twice a week replacing evening meals.
When i feed the dog salmon(once a blue moon), i'll mince a teaspoon for the fish.

Some of the others i've added to the above before as replacement to oysters - Whitebait, cockles, mussels, white clams, shark meat, whitefish meat, nori, selco, spirulina, phytoplankton, fish roe. i've tried blended and chopped but grated is the best.

So professional!!!
If you come to China, I must invite you to my home.
Thank you a million!!!
I have a problem. You said you smamsh them with a mortar. but I worry about juice of fresh shrimp will flow out. When I feed the fish with food I made, the juice will pollute the water. Is it necessary that I think of? Thanks

When I defrost anything that was frozen, I use a syringe or tweezers to feed the clowns so none of the excess "water" goes into the tank like you mentioned--good point! No need for it unless you have a thriving population of corals that may enjoy it.

Thank you very much.
I get troubles again.
1. What is 'selcon+' and 'nori' ?
2. How can I get "spirulina enriched Brine shrimp" ? Do I feed BBS with spirulina myself? If I add spirulina powder directly, whether it can replace SPIRULINA ENRICHED BRINE SHRIMP or not?
3. vita-chem=vitamin ??? What is different between them?
4. I have a pair of maroon clownfish. The male have a little courage. He don't eat any food until the food drift to his home.
5. Could you take a picture about the food you made? Thank you very much!
6. How often do you change wate? and how many do you change once?

To bawater
At first, I want to say thank you for you tell me a good way making food. but I still have some problem. Thank you advance.
1. you say" Grated to feed fish not the filter." Do you mean I can not open filter when I feed the fish with the food you recommended???
2. Is Whiebait very small ,white and black eyes? I have fed fish with Whitebait. But the fish don't like it. There are some fish bone in it.
3. How often do you change wate? and how many do you change once?

Hi DNA,

nope i don't off any filters when feeding. simply, grated means you get small bite size chunks.

whitebait size depends on season, not neccessary to use.I don't use it anymore.

water change depends on your fish load & filtration. Mine is abt 5% once per month or every 2 mths (System is 400ltr).

This is correct the correct one.
2. What is the difference between them?
