Here is a shot of the underside of the biofilters for one of the new systems. A simple setup: there are two 20H tanks filled with bioballs. A drip-plate sits on the top, and I estimate 350gph through each one.

Here's a shot that got left out; it just shows the plumbing with the tank removed--the bulkhead fits into the pipe and can be lifted off when the tank needs scrubbing, etc.

A look down a row of tanks:

Clearer shot:

Nice pics, so the tanks are not permanently attached to the system?

Right, the water "falls" into the piping to be returned to the sump. The return plumbing is flexible at the tank, so by turning off one valve and draining the tank, it can be lifted off the rack.

It's a small world you know! I'd love to hear about / see what you're up to if you feel like sharing sometime!
Most of the pictures were taken within a few days of cleaning. Some about a year ago, and some more recent. I hosted a reef club meeting back in Feb, so I scrubbed out everything before that and decided to take a few pics (It was a huge job, so I wanted to document!). I usually scrub all the tanks down once-in-a-while anyway (but not usually all at once!). They stay relatively clean thanks to heavy skimming with ozone and frequent cleaning of the intake sponges on all of the pumps. I really should have gone with filter bags on the returns, but I digress...
Right now I'm doing mostly ocellaris, but I've got ~1k GSM and several hundred perculas that I'm waiting for color to develop in and several other species in smaller quantities. It's fun to raise all the different species, but they don't all sell like the o's, so I might end up sitting on them. I raised several species from club-members' tanks (including clarkii, which are a bit more popular), but it's not practical to do that all the time. Hopefully I will have my own clarkii soon thanks to Bededog!

That's a lot of beautiful fish! What are you feeding them to get such nice color?
Btw, nice meeting you at IMAC!

Thanks Kathy (sorry for the late response, I've been travelling again!). I feed a lot of cyclop-eeze and pigment-rich foods. I add selco, cyclop-eeze, vita-chem, and naturose to my homemade food too. I'm not sure how important high water quality, light, and water movement are for health/coloration, but I suspect they are, so I provide the best that I reasonably can.
