Buying Mated Pairs?

What experience have you had with buying mated pairs? Do they spawn readily or is it better to start with unmated pairs? Do differnt types of clowns adjust better to spawning in a new home?

I have purchase mated pairs that have spawned after having them for only 2 months. And then like the Caps took 9 months to spawn, so I think it all depends on the type of fish and how you keep them.

I an planninig on starting with something "easy" A. Occellaris or
A. Melanopus Do you think the stress of shipping slows down the spawning enough to make it worth pairing them on my own or is it going to be a negligable difference?

I don't think, shipping plays too much of a role.
Oc's are easy to start spawning so you should give them a try.

I also will suggest liveaquaria.com. They have a 14 day guarantee, which is unheard of elsewhere. Shipping would not affect them.

I would only buy mated pairs from fellow hobbyists or maybe liveaquaria. I bought a mated pair of true perculas from MarineDepotLive.com and they sent me one percula and one ocellaris. At the time I had no idea and I just thought that their bond was broken in shipping. Little did I know I was scammed.

I would recommend getting the two finest specimens that you like and just pair them up yourself.

I talked to a large outlet like the ones you mentioned, be prepared to pay $300 + shipping for a mated pair of ocellaris.
