I've ended up with 3 of these myself and overall, the quality of the rearing was junky, and I relayed that back up the chain. Overall, my take was that genetically they're probably fine and for breeding, well, having CB stock the F2 generation should be much easier to come by. But, things like twisted mouths, flared gills and being misbars...some folks might like a misbarred Ocellaris, but on a fish called the WIDE BAND Clownfish, not having the WIDE BAND would be like a naked saddleback...what's the point? ;)
I'm happy with the ones I got, they're doing well, and ultimately I'll pair the spare off with a WC fish to have some diversity. They're here for breeding, not for show, so in the end they're just fine. But seriously...the quality on these fish needs to go WAY UP and FAST - right now they kinda feel like another "black eye" against captive breeding, just like poor colored clownfish.
FWIW,
Matt

This will sound waaaay worse than the spirit in which it is meant but you and several other people encouraged the breeder to sell fish that should have been culled simply by opening your wallets. I'd sell crap fish too if people were buying them. I did speak to one person on RC from Dallas where some of the batch went and directly to a vendor in FL where another part of the batch went. I one of the sources reportedly requested a refund or exchange from the wholesaler. This was what should be happening in both this and in other instances.
We can complain all we want but as long as people are still willing to buy an inferior product, the whole industry will suffer.
I in no way want to discourage people from breeding fish in captivity. Especially the ones that are harder to get ahold of. I think it's awsome that people are willing to make the effort it takes to break new ground. Two things I'm learning to hate are deformed fish (not including mis-bars) and un-natural hybrid fish.

Just starting to hate Walt, I've been there for a couple of years now, and I do include misbars. This niche of the hobby has turned very ugly the last few years, and I do mean the clown fish that are being produced.

I agree. I think some are going the way of the goldfish. Pretty soon we will see stubby clowns with giant eyes.

Two years ago I was oblivious to a lot of this. I bought un-natural hybrids and bought deformed fish. I didn't even know why they looked weird until people here told me that what I was looking at were due to common CB malformations.
I've also been in communication with a lot of public aquarists and a few biologists. It's really opened my eyes to a lot of ethical issues I was not aware of before.

100% in agreement there...the fish were ordered somewhat sight unseen and at the time, we were collectively not sure that they were in fact misbars. I knew it would be a gamble. Also, the price made it such that for me personally, I could justify them as broodstock. Afterall, as broodstock, genetically they're fine (although I never would want misbarred broodstock if I had the option to have normally barred fish..even though there's not a genetic basis for it!).

Most of the people who bought them that I heard from have been in the same boat as you. They knew that it was a gamble and rec'd them sight unseen.

Please don't. For one they should not be kept in the same temp tank. That said, I have kept my leucs in the same SYSTEM at 76F. That would be OK. But you really shouldn't have them in the same TANK.
I don't really know or care about your personal financial situation and how much a loss of one of these pairs would affect you, but it would be a shame to see you lose one of the pairs.
